At Indiegraf, we are committed to transforming the landscape of community news. Our goal is to make it possible for every community, no matter their economic status, rural geography or ethnic makeup, to access quality community journalism. While we can’t tackle every barrier to that, many problems can be solved with innovative approaches to technology, services and business models.
We aim to maximize our community impact by giving publishers more resources to produce their work. That means lowering their expenses, increasing their revenue and giving them time back. We are on a mission to change the independent journalism ecosystem by disrupting the status quo and rewriting industry standards.
Who we are
Indiegraf was founded in 2020 by sisters Erin Millar (CEO) and Caitlin Havlak (CTO), who previously collaborated on The Discourse, a community-funded news outlet recognized across North America for its award-winning journalism and successful business model for in-depth local news.
Erin Millar also regularly contributes as an industry organizer and advocate on government policy related to journalism (including Canada’s Online News Act) and is chair of the Canadian Journalism Collective, a non-profit created to distribute $100 million annual contribution from Google to support sustainability and innovation in the Canadian news ecosystem.
Together, they built Indiegraf to support the next wave of journalist entrepreneurs by making news entrepreneurship not just viable, but a fulfilling career and life choice. We are a team of community news founders and passionate individuals inspired by the rise of independent news. Our goal is to help journalist entrepreneurs focus on what they do best by taking as much off of their plates as possible.
